Work Resumed After Dispute at Kilnhurst

A strike began at Kilnhurst Colliery on Monday, after seven colliers on the morning shift, had refused to transfer their labour to another coal face.

The men alleged that they had previously been asked to work a fresh face at lower rates than they were receiving, but they refused.

The dispute subsequently involved other face workers. A meeting was called to try to persuade the men to resume work in order that negotiations could be opened with the management but by Wednesday, the strike affected the whole of the Parkgate  seam.

On Thursday morning however the majority of the men resumed work.
