Called Up On His Birthday

Popular Kilnhurst British Legion secretary, Mr. George Henry Gladwin, 13, Russell Road, Kilnhurst, is now serving with His Majesty’s Forces “somewhere overseas.”

He was called up as a transport reservist on August 15th, which incidentally was his birthday, and it was not until five weeks ago that his wife learned that he was abroad.

Mr. Gladwin sent her a short letter stating that he was abroad. He expressed the opinion that the beer was not as good as English beer, and said he preferred to be teetotal there.

His wife sends him the “Times” every week, hut although her letters have reached him he has not yet got the papers.

Mr. Gladwin had organised the Kilnhurst Poppy Day project each year and is concerned about the organisation now.
