Not Happy New Year for Them

The first day of the New Year — Friday — saw four accidents in the Mexborough area and four people removed to hospital.

Charles Swan, a motor cyclist, of Hathersley Road, Rotherham, was admitted to Mexborough Montagu Hospital in a critical condition after being involved in a collision with a car at the Toll Bar, Mexborough, together with a pillion passenger, Ambrose Ward, of Barnburgh Street, Denaby. Jim Gillott, of Manvers Road, another motor cyclist, was also admitted to hospital after a collision with a lorry near his home. The third road mishap was a comparatively slight one involving a van and car near Mexborough Power Station. Damage was negligible.

Fourth casualty was 16-years-old Harry Morris of Oak Road, Mexborough, who was detained in Mexborough Montagu Hospital with neck injuries after falling down some stairs at the Yorks Tar Distillers’ Kilnhurst Works. Morris is employed in the laboratory.
