Kilnhurst Worthy’s 91st Birthday

“They all tell me I’ve done well to live so many years,” says Mrs Alice Potterton, a Kilnhurst worthy now living at Rotherham, who celebrated her 91st birthday on Tuesday.

Born at Ferrybridge, near Pontefract, Mrs. Potterton went to live at Kilnhurst at the age of 14, and was there for 75 years until she Rotherham two years ago.

She is living with her daughter, Mrs. W. G. Brittain of 38, Far Lane, Rotherham, while at Kilner, she was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church and of the Sisterhood.

Married at Wath In 1874, Mrs Potterton celebrated her Diamond Wedding 13 years ago. Soon after this her husband died.      She lost two daughters, one of whom was Miss G. Potterton who owned a stationery business in High Street, Rotherham. Mrs. Potterton has one son and two daughters living, 10 grand-children and seven great-grand-children.

She still reads newspapers and books, and her only complaint is “a bit of rheumatic.” She was host to a few old friends at a small birthday party on Tuesday.
