Kilnhurst Hospital Sunday
A Successful Revival
Glorious weather favoured the Kilnhurst Hospital Demonstration which was revived last Sunday after a lapse of eleven years. The effort was exceedingly well arranged, mainly through the untiring efforts of Mr. J. H. Woolsey, the village representative on the management of the Montagu Hospital, who acted as secretary.
The Kilnhurst Colliery Ambulance Band, conducted by Mr. R. Cowles, worked overtime in connection with the demonstration. They marched from the Sportsman Inn, Swinton, back to the Weir Bridge. Kilnhurst, picking up the Highthorn Wesleyan Reform Sunday School scholars on the way.
At the Weir Bridge a procession was formed of the band, members and officials of the Swinton Urban Council , and the Sunday Schools. After parading the principal streets they marched to the Welfare ground where a large crowd had gathered for a service.
Mr. W. Dyson. J.P. of Hooton Manor, presided, as he did on the last occasion. He remarked on that fact, and added that he was pleased the demonstration had been revived. The principal speaker was to have been Mr. Joseph Hall, J.P., of Wombwell, who could not attend, and sent Mr. F. Collindridge, who spoke highly of the record of the Mexborough hospital and concluded a powerful appear for continued and increased support. The hospital report was given by Mr. H. Thompson, and a vote of thanks was moved by Mr. B. L. Smith (Swinton), seconded by Mr. T. Beighton.
During the service, prayers were said by the Vicar (the Rev. F. W. Shepherd), and the anthem. “Send out Thy Light” (Gounod) and the part-song “Comrades’ Song of Hope” (Adams) were sung by a united choir conducted by Mr. J. Broadbent and accompanied by. Miss Price (Highthorn). The band also played selections. In the evening a concert was given by the choir and the band.
The proceeds realised nearly £10 and for this successful outcome Mr. Woolsey tenders thanks to all who assisted.
