Kilnhurst Church Garden Party
Funds Required for Renovation of Parish Hall
The Vicar of Kilnhurst, the Rev. E. J. Cheverton, announced at Kilnhurst Parish Church garden party yesterday, which was opened by Mrs. E. J. Verity, a former parishioner and church worker, and now of Scalby, near Scarborough, that £200 was needed for the renovation of the Church Institute. He also told a fairly large gathering that the Kilnhurst Colliery Company had contributed £25. and £10 had been raised by other efforts.
Introducing the opener, the Vicar said the purpose of the event was to raise funds for the renovation to the Church Institute. It was a Parish Hall, and when the work was complete d he wanted everyone to understand that it was there for the use of the whole parishand not exclusively for the use of the Church. He referred to Mrs. Verity as “a very old friend of the parish.”
Miss Barbara Cheverton presented Mrs. Verity with a bouquet.
Mrs. Verity referred to her former work for the Mothers’ Union in the parish, and said she missed a number of the old faces she used to know. She reminded them that the Parish Hall was built in 1923, and that in the first year the Mothers’ Union made grants totalling £32 11s. 6d. towards it.
She thought Mr. Cheverton and the people of the parish were to be congratulated for their efforts towards its renovation and she was sure the day would be successful, and fully reward their efforts.
Mr. E. Saxton proposed a vote of thanks to the opener, and Mr. J. Randall seconded.
