Kilnhurst C.C. Hoping For Better Things

Kilnhurst cricket dub held their annual dinner and prize night in Kilnhurst W.M.C. on Saturday when Councillor W Bentham, chairman of Swinton UDC, Mrs E Dawson, president of the club and the Reverend A.T.H. Tebboth, vicar of Kilnhurst presents the prizes

Mr. J. Broadbent, chairman of the club gathering to stand in silence for three members who had recently died. They were Mr. S Saxton, Mr. F. Millington and Mr T Burkinshaw.

Mr. Broadbent said these three members had sustained their interest in the club throughout their lives and their families had been connected with cricket since a club was formed in Kilnhurst.

Mr. Broadbent said last season had not been a particularly good one. but he hoped their prospects would be better next season. No club in the Doncaster League had a more enthusiastic and hard working committee than had the Kilnhurst club.

Mr. Don Colls. secretary of the: club, said the remedy for a better, team was more practice, particularly for the batsmen. He said the facilities were there for practice and the players should take advantage of them.

He gave the club, records for last season:

first eleven, played 18, won 3. drawn 4 lost 11;

second eleven played 18, won 4, drawn 3, lost 11
