One of the district’s biggest fires on the “The Fifth” Bar was unintentional.

The six bay Dutch barn at Heywood’s farm near the toll bar at Kilnhurst was burnt out and crops and farm machinery were lost.

This was the largest of three stack fires with which Mexborough Divisional Fire Brigade had to deal in one night.
