End of an “Abbey”

It is 12 years since a house was built in Kilnhurst, but before the year is out there will be one coming down!

This is a derelict building in Victoria Street, described by one resident as Kilnhurst’s “Roche Abbey.” It presents an unsightly appearance in the village’s main thoroughfare and something of a danger to pedestrians and children in particular, because of its dilapidated condition.

Swinton Urban Council have undertaken to demolish the building when permission has been obtained from the present owners. They will do the work free of charge providing they are permitted to dispose of material as may deemed expedient and without re-imbursement
