February 1928

Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Friday 03 February 1928

Change at Kilnhurst.

The employment of the miners at Kilnhurst Colliery will be terminated under the present working contract to-day, when, in accordance with the decision the owners, Messrs. Stewarts and Lloyds, Ltd., the double-shift system now in operation will be abandoned for the substitution of a single-shift system.

The present bad state of the coal trade is the reason given for the change.

With the expiration of the notices 60 per cent, of the men will be reengaged, but there will be a complete stoppage temporarily because of an accident to the winding-drum.
