Kilnhurst Councillor – Mr W.O. Turton

Mr. W. O. Turton, of 10, Rix Road, Kilnhurst, who has been elected for three years is extremely popular in the district.

For thirty years he has lived at Kilnhurst.

He went to the National School, the Mexborough Secondary School, the Rotherham College of technology, and finally studied at Sheffield University, and obtained an Associate Degree in Metallurgy,

At present he is a metallurgical chemist at Baker and Bessemer’s, Ltd.

Mr. Turton is a trustee of the Working Men’s Club, and achieved popularity as the secretary of the Kilnhurst Coronation Celebrations Committee.

Like his father, he has been closely connected with the Kilnhurst British Legion branch, and at present assists the benevolent committee.

He has shown great interest in sport, and is treasurer of the Baker and Bessemer Football Club. He has been a member of the Church Institute, and a choir boy at the Parish Church.

Politically, he is a Socialist, but prefers independence to following party dictates.
