“Britannia” in Procession

Among the many attractions for the Kilnhurst celebrations is a football match between women of the committee and men of the committee. The men will not be allowed to run.

There is also to be a coronation “Britannia”; Doreen Maplethorpe, daughter of Mr and Mrs JW Maplethorpe, of 17 Charles St, Kilnhurst.

She is to ride with the procession and take her place among the Queens attendants.

The programme is:

Tuesday

4 o’clock children’s teas at schools

Wednesday

10 AM, church service conducted by Rev CB Renshaw, of Mexborough

12:30 PM: parade to welfare ground where king and queen are to be crowned

1 PM, maypole dancing, country dancing, fancy dress parade and other field event, judging of fancy dress; Women v Men in football match.

8:30 PM dancing on floodlit field to music by Town band, distribution of prizes by king and queen

9 PM king and queen parade to bonfire, and light it. A firework display concludes the day.

During the day loudspeakers will relay the events to all parts of the field.
