Their Own Fund — Raisers

At Kilnhurst

Working very hard, four young Kilnhurst girls organised a concert and two jumble sales and raised £3 for the local branch of the N.S.P.C.C. and £1 for the local Girl Guide movement.

They were Margaret Bamford (12), student at Mexborough Grammar School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.T. Bamford, Cliff House  Kilnhurst,  Barbara Burkinshaw, (12), student at Swinton Modern School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Burkinshaw, 25, Wheatley Road, Kilnhurst and Pamela (11) and Carol (10) Gilliver, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J. Gilliver,29, Wheatley Road, Kilnhurst.

The concert was held in the backgarden of Pamela and Carol’s home and was attended by school friends.

Added “attractions” were the toffee apples and lollipops made by Mrs. Gilliver. The concert was such a success that the girls decided to give another performance during the  afternoon. “Compere” at both performances was 14-years-old John Gilliver.

Fired with enthusiasm after the concert’s success, the girls set about collecting jumble from friends and neighbours. They met with a generous response and the sales realised a further three pounds.

All four girls are members of,the Guide movement, formed in Kilnhurst three months ago.
