Operetta at Kilnhurst

The Kilnhurst Philharmonic Society is evidently fulfilling its mission as a cultivator of local musical talent.

It’s interpretation, last night, of Martin Schuil’s operetta, “The Sylvan Queen,” was marked by many evidences of pleasing ability, and incidentally, the good training characteristics of Mr Stubbs, the popular conductor.

The principal parts were taken by Messrs Downing, Stubbs, H Stubbs, R Taylor, A Taylor, Mrs Hancock, The Misses M Jackson, A Watson, A Cunningham and G Hewitt.

An efficient orchestra, with Miss Lily Bentham as accompanist, added to the effect of the presentation. Mr David Jagger was heard to advantage in a musical monologue entitled, “My Pipe.”
