About 5,000 appointments, approximately two-thirds of all attendances made, have helped to relieve the tedium of excessive waiting since the appointment scheme was introduced into the out-patient department of the Montagu Hospital last November.  While it was never claimed that all waiting would be obviated, there has undoubtedly been a great reduction now that attendances are staggered, the average time spent by patients in the waiting room at a recent clinic being an hour. In view of the pressure on visiting specialists to the hospital, the scheme has proved a helpful innovation. A “cup of tea” service, made possible through the help of Swinton W.V.S., is much appreciated by out-patients.
