Unusual Case Settled.
Rotherham Works Accident Compensation Division.

Compensation was claimed by Lilian Ivy Binney, widow. 147, Queen -Street. Swinton, on behalf of herself and her child Margaret, nine months, in respect of the death of her husband John William Binncy and by Sarah Elizabeth, 4. Crossgate, Mexborough, and Alice Ann Cousins, of 16, Dodsworth road. Mexborough, executors of Binney’s will on behalf of his son Percy, aged 10 years.
The respondents were Messrs. John Baker and Co. (Rotherham) 1920 Ltd., Kilnhurst Steel Works.
The accident took place at the Kilnhurst Steel Works on 1 October when Binney was working as a boiler fireman. He received severe injuries and died the following day.
It was stated the case was one which the wife had actually been living apart from her husband for four mouths at the time of the accident. Under the whole of the circumstances and subject to the judge’s consent, it had been agreed that there should award of £300, being £80 for the wife, £160 for the youngest child. Margaret, and £60 for the boy, Percy.
Judge Lias agreed.
