Young Kilnhurst Man Loses His Life

Barry Ward (20) only son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Ward, of 48 Sivilla Road, Kilnhurst, died in Rotherham Hospital on Monday after having been involved in a road accident while returning home from work on the Friday afternoon.

He was employed by Edgar Allen Co. Ltd, Sheffield in the electrical department, where he was training to be a metallurgist.

He had previously attended Swinton Fitzwilliam School, Brampton Ellis school and Barnsley Technical College.

He had many friends at Rockingham Cycling club, which he was a member.

He played football for Baker and Bessemer and several years ago was a member of the Swinton Parish Church choir.

His father, Mr Ernest Ward, is a boiler man at Mexborough Montagu hospital. They previously lived in Racecourse Road, Swinton

Inquest Opened

An inquest was opened at Rotherham on Tuesday by the borough coroner (Mr N.S.Robson). Mr Robson adjourned the inquest until April 30.

Ernest Ward, the youth’s father, said he bought the motorcycle in February, 12 months ago and his son used it regularly – for travelling to work and for long distance holidays. He was still a learner.

Witness said his son set off for work afternoon on Friday and he was informed of the accident at 3.30. The youth died on Monday at Rotherham Hospital.

It is understood that Ward received multiple injuries in a road accident at Sheffield Road, Templeborough. He stated to have been trapped under a van.
