The Sculptor
Mr. C. S. Jagger, the Kilnhurst born Sculptor, at work on the model for his latest commission ; a 30 ft. figure of Christ to go over the West entrance of the new Roman Catholic Cathedral at Liverpool.
NB This sculpture was never executed because the architect’s (Edwin Lutyens) design for the Cathedral was deemed too costly and funding for the building work ran out. Jagger produced many smaller works but died due to pneumonia in 1934.
A blue plaque was unveiled in his home village, Kilnhurst, by the Rotherham District Civic Society in 2018 and a similar plaque was unveiled in 2000 at his London home, 67 Albert Bridge Road, Battersea.
