Mexborough and Swinton Times June 18, 1892

This area was well known to me. In my courting days I used to catch the 22 from Wombwell to Swinton. The 24 was the Mexborough Kilnhurst bus which was always disapearing round the courner as I alighted.

Then I used to walk from Swinton to Kilnurst, about 3 miles, passing HighThorne and Meadow View.

The map shows the area in 1901. Where the attack took place was quite lonely. The area is now full of houses.
