The Kilnhurst Murder 10 years ago

at the meeting of the Rotherham Board of guardians, yesterday, the movement for the release of Frederick L Backhouse, for the murder of police constable Kew, at Kilnhurst, 10 years ago, was referred to by Mr B.L.Smith, vice chairman.

As a board nothing could be done in the matter, but it was understood the members would act individually.

Charles Benjamin Backhouse (23) and Frederick Lawder Backhouse (19) shot PC Kew on July 10th, 1900

Charles was executed on August 23 and Frederick reprieved
