Lance Corporal Walker, of Hooton Road, Kilnhurst, has received the Military Medal because of great personal risk when he rescued a wounded man who was lying helpless in a bog.

During the whole of the five days he was in charge of the post, he constantly displayed unusual courage and, energy in getting dispatches forward, always personally volunteering for the most difficult missions.

Lance Corporal Walker’s brother, Pte. Herbert Walker, was killed in action in France in September 1916.
