Soldier – Rowley W. – Military Medal

June 1918

Mexborough and Swinton Times June 29, 1918

Bombardier W Rowley
Royal Field Artillery

Bdr. W. Rowley (R.F.A.), 51, Highthorn Kilnhurst, who is now in a convalescent camp at Ripon, having been thrice wounded and twice gassed, has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry in action.

While suffering severely from the effects of gas, he continued working his gun alone for a considerable period.

Only under orders did he cease his excursion, which under the conditions would have caused his death.
