Story Broadcast
All Kilnhurst listened on Friday evening to a broadcast of the story of how Corporal N. R. Darley of 9 Rix Road, Kilnhurst, with another trooper took 2,000 prisoners in North Africa in June, and joined by a Lieutenant to whom 8,000 Germans had surrendered, arrived back in the Eighth Army lines with 10,000 Axis troops. The story of three men was told in radio play form in the programme “Local Boy.”
Mrs. Darley, her mother, and two children were listening. Mrs. Darley sald “It was well arranged, but they did not speak very broad.” Incidentally, the day following the broadcast was Mrs. Darley’s birthday, and she received from her husband in the Middle East a birthday cablegram.
