Military Medal
Presentation at Kilnhurst

On Thursday last there was a presentation of the Military Medal to Private H.H. Cutts (York and Lancaster, Machine Gun Corps).

Private Cutts has been discharged from the army through trench fever and shellshock.

He has been unable to resume work, and a committee of friends organised a whist drive and dance at which the presentation was made.

Private Cutts won the Military Medal by “Great gallantry near Morval on September 25, 1916, when, although badly wounded, he carried his gun under a heavy barrage to the newly captured position.” In the same action he was blown up by a shell.

The presentation was made by Mr WH Ball (manager of Silverwood colliery), who was supported by Mr D Tuke (under manager), Mr J Stamp, and Mr E England, representing the Yorkshire Miners Association.
