Sexton for 48 Years

April 1937

Mexborough and Swinton Times April 23, 1937

The death occurred at his home, Victoria Street, Kilnhurst, last Friday of Mr Harvey Taylor, Sexton of the Parish Church for the last 48 years.

He was 78 years of age and was well known in the district. Coming to Kilnhurst six years ago, he succeeded his father, who had been Sexton for 28 years, and served under three Vicars.

He recalled the days of the Sheffield Flood and took great interest in relics of the catastrophe.

Mr Taylor took a lively interest in local cricket, and was also fond of fishing.

The internment took place on Wednesday at the Parish Church.
