Kilnhurst Directors Purchase a Sheffield Concern

Mr. George Baker, 0.B.E , managing director of Messrs. Baker and Bessemer, Ltd., of Kilnhurst and Rotherham, and his co-director, Mr. Edward Baker, have purchased the old-established  works of Messrs Woodhouse and Rixson, Bessemer Road, Attercliffe, Sheffield.

This firm was established in 1881 by the late Mr. John Woodhouse and Mr. Rixson and has built up a creditable reputation for the manufacture of bent cranks, being also successfully engaged in making general forgings of all descriptions. Some 200 workmen are employed.

It is intended that Messrs. Baker and Bessemer shall take a controlling interest in the concern, but a new company ha3 been formed and the undertaking will not become a subsidiary of Messrs. Baker and Bessemer.

Directors of the new company will be Mr. George Baker, O.B.E., Mr. Edward Baker, Mr. Sydney Ernest Baker, Mr. Alfred Mincher and Mr. William Henry Dawe. Mr. Mincher has been commercial manager and Mr. Dawe works manager for Messrs. Woodhouse and Rixson.

The business will be carried on under the management of Mr. Mincher and Mr. Dawe, with as little disturbance as possible.
