Mexborough and Swinton Times June 3, 1938
The former Rother Valley Conservative and Unionist Association and the Swinton and Kilnhurst (men’s branch) in particular can ill afford to lose such active and enthusiastic men as Mr Richard Tetlow and Mr Fred Penny.
The passing of these two men coming so suddenly and tragically within a fortnight leaves the Conservative organisations of the district immeasurably poorer. Both men had become important public figures, the former in more recent years, while the latter had recently relinquished to a great extent his official positions in the local body while retaining his connections with the Divisional organisation.
All who knew them agree that had not Mr. Tetlow been cut off in his prime he was destined to accomplish in his usual enthusiastic and determined way, such social work as Mr. Penny had made the core of his public during the last two decades.
Mr. Tetlow, considerably the younger man, was as popular and well-known with younger residents, as Mr. Penny was with the older generation in the district.
