New Headship for Mr. J. C. Wilkinson

Mr. John C. Wilkinson, of 10, Racecourse Road, Swinton, headmaster of Kilnhurst National School since 1932, has been appointed headmaster of Cudworth Modern School, in succession to Mr. E. Lightowler, who takes up an appointment in York early in December.

Mr. Wilkinson is a popular Swintonian, and has been actively connected with many organisations outside school work.

Headmaster  of Swinton Bridge Evening Institute since May, 1938, Mr. Wilkinson is a former captain and president of Kilnhurst Cricket Club. He captained Swinton men’s hockey team for five years, is chairman of the Jubilee Trust Fund, and was secretary to the local Jubilee and Coronation celebrations.

He is also a co-opted member of the Library Committee of Swinton Urban Council, and secretary of Swinton Youth Council.

Since 1927 he has taught at the Swinton Fitzwilliam’s school and Armthorpe Senior Mixed School (where he inaugurated and organised the present dramatic Society). And he succeeded Mr C.R. Green and headmaster at Kilnhurst in 1972.

He has taught at Wombwell, Armthorpe and Swinton Bridge Evening Institute
