Kilnhurst Sign Steve Vickers from Shipcroft

The future of Kilnhurst football has been so uncertain past seasons that it is likely stringent measures will be taken to ensure stronger support and deduced expenditure. Consideration has been given to reduction of membership fees and this step is almost certain to be effected.  Any attempt to increase admission charges will be strongly opposed.  It is hoped these steps – together with a good run in the League – will help to keep the football section financially sound.

A welcome note for the start of the season is the securing of Steve Vickers, Shipcroft ‘keeper last season.  Steve has helped Kilnhurst out on many occasions and is very popular with the supporters.  He should be a big asset in the coming campaign. So far, he is the only newcomer, but Secretary Jack Haythorne said on Tuesday “we are looking for a centre-forward and inside man” and indicated there would be more new faces at Kilnhurst before the season opens.

Close season departures are Tom Dungworth and Walter Yuren to Wombwell, and Tony Cooper to the R.A.F. The majority of last season’s players will otherwise be available.  The reserves will run in the Mexborough 18-21 League, and opportunity may be taken to “blood” some of the 16-18 League players in the reserves.
