Kilnhurst Panto
Features Young Local Pianist’s Song “Hit”
Geoffrey H. Smith, former Kilnhurst Theatrical Society pianist who is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, London, composed the music for a song for the newly formed Society’s first pantomime “Cinderella,” which was presented in Kilnhurst Church Hall on Saturday, Monday Monday and Tuesday, and is now being presented in Swinton Congregational church schoolroom.
It is estimated that 1000 will have seen the pantomime by the end of this week.
Producers are Mr Tom Bamford, manager’s clerk at Kilnhurst and Mr Harold Law, a lorry driver.
Packed Houses
The pantomime is a great success this and has so far played before packed houses. There are no flaws in the performance and nothing superfluous upsets the harmony and continuity. Credit is due to the producers and their talented cast for putting on a pleasing show after only six weeks’ rehearsing. The success of the new Theatre Club is proved by the fact that many people who travelled from SwInton to see their first show, “The King of Sherwood,” requested the club to present their pantomime In Swinton. Three of the club officials are in the cast.
Principal boy and girl. Beryl Jones (Prince Charming) and June Edwards (Cinderella) sing well together and show acting ability. It would be hard to find a better matched couple.
Miss Jones and Miss Edwards are well supported by a talented team. Chaotic comedy is rife when the two very ugly sisters, Charles Gill (Ermyntrude) and Ronald Birks (Hortense) appear on the stage with their mother, Baroness Hangover.
