A Kilnhurst Girl’s Theft

At the Rotherham cat West Riding Court, yesterday, Harriet Banks (12) of Kilnhurst, was charges of stealing a purse, containing a pawn ticket, representing 4s and 3s 8d in money, belonging to James Slater, miner, Swinton on Saturday, May 14.

The prosecutor’s son was sent to pledge a gold ring for five shillings and when he received the money and ticket he paid 1s 3d for a parcel out of pledge. He inadvertently left the purse and contents on the counter, and when he went back it was missing.

The defendant, who was in the shop at the time, was afterwards found in possession of the purse and 3s 8d in money.

The girl was placed under probation for 12 months.
