Transformation Brings Goals to Kilnhurst
Don Dungworth (Kilnhurst) in a goalmouth incident in the Bowbroom W.M,C.—Kilnhurst Colliery RawmarNh Challenge Cup semi-final at Mexborough on Saturday.
A remarkable change of tactics after the first of all their Rawmarsh Challenge Cup semifinals fixture with league leaders Bowbroom W.M.C. brought off a well deserved 6-1 victory for Kilnhurst colliery, third in the league, at Mexborough Hampden Road on Saturday
Play was pretty even during the first half and it was only through a lucky goal by outside right John Hopkins that Kilnhurst and a 1-0 half-time lead.
Kilnhurst who had a strong wind behind them, had a decided advantage in the first 45 minutes and it was reasonable to suppose that after the resumption Bowbroom fortune might change. This was not to be, however, for Kilnhurst’s second of transformation from sluggish to vigourous football that brought them five goals in the second after bulb rooms one
Chest Deflection
Both tennis played unentertaining football In the first half and although play kept switching from end to end the forwards rarely went close, although some very quick thinking by their outside-right John Hopkins put Kilnhurst In the lead in the 32nd mute when he deflected an angle shot item centre-forward Peter Eccles into the Bowbroom net with his Chest.
Klinhurst went all out after the resumption . Hero of the Bowbroom side was goalkeeper Malcolm Collindridge whose valiant efforts got them out of serious trouble.
This was a poor game for centre-forward Stan Hoyland, who is usually the “star” of the Bowbroom. Hoyiand, who has 29 goals to his credit this season, had very little support from he is backs.
Eccles Hat-trick
Kilnhurst centre forward Peter Eccles, who “morphed” a “sitter” in the first minute of the resumption, redeemed himself with a bang, for he went on to score a hat-trick. His first goal came in the 50th minute and he’s got two more in the closing minutes.
Other Kilnhurst scorers were inside left Harold Dungworth (75th minute) and inside right George Frith, who converted a penalty a few minutes later.
