Kilnhurst Boy’s Fatal Slip

Yesterday, Mr D Wightman, district coroner, held an inquest at the primitive Methodist schoolroom, Kilnhurst, on the body of Reginald Bailey (7), living with his parents at Victoria Street, Kilnhurst, who was drowned in the canal on Friday afternoon.

He left home about 4 o’clock and met a companion of the same age named George Keaton. They went down to the wharf to play. They were catching moths, when the deceased slipped and fell into the water. The body was recovered about 5 o’clock.

A verdict of “accidentally drowned” was returned.
