What Has Happened to Kilnhurst this Season?
Kilnhurst 1 – Langold 5
What has happened to Kilnhurst this season? Less than two years ago they were a first-class Sheffield Association League side. Now their football is very poor, and Saturday’s home game with Langold, in which they were beaten 5-1, was a typical example.
The players themselves must have been as disheartened by their display as were the few spectators. For Kilnhurst just did not seem to know what to do with the ball when they got it. Fortunately, they have some savings graces, and it is possible that they may jump out of this rut before long.
Langold scored first after five minutes with a NIXON shot from a pass by Parker. Kilnhurst equalised a few minutes later when Gray headed an excellent goal from a Frith centre. But after that Kilnhurst just faded. They met former Rawmarsh centre-forward Charlie Ardron, brother of Notts Forest’s Walter Ardron, and Charlie scored the remaining four Langold goals on his own, three in the second half.
All of them followed sheer bad tactics by Kilnhurst. Excepted, were Derek Thickett, hard working right-back, Frith on the right-wing and left-winger Willoughby.
There’s promise, too, in goal. Don. Dungworth, 17-years-old brother of former ‘keeper Tom, played his second game for the side, and his first at home. He looks like becoming a better goalkeeper than his brother.
