Costs In The Steel Trades
Rotherham Firm’s Possible Move
Shareholders of John Baker and Co., Rotherham, who visited the firm’s steelworks at Kilnhurst after the general meeting recently, were greatly impressed by the excellence of the layout of the shops and the air of efficiency which prevailed all round. They will now be interested to hear (writes a trade correspondent) that there is a possibility of the firm concentrating their energies at Kiinhurst and giving up their two establishments at Rotherham – those at Brinsworth and the Holmes.
The matter is being seriously considered, but there is no reason to anticipate any hurry in making the change; it may be two years or more.
It is felt that concentration at Kiinhurst would rend to bring down production costs, which the firm feel are too high at the Brinsworth works, where a good deal of electric current is used at a cost which might be more reasonable
