Clever Violinist
Winning an England dance band trophy for the violin and a scholarship which enable him to spend four years at Manchester Royal College are two of the many awards which Mr Harry Hinchcliffe, of the Ship Inn, Kilnhurst has gained.
Harry can also play the trombone, but it was only recently that he decided to learn this instrument. He started to play the violin when he was fourteen, under the tuition of Miss L. Brameld of Rotherham. He has played in several dance bands and is at present engaged in Mr. Bert Clegg’s band of Mexborough.
He won the violin solo section of Mexborough Musical Festival in 1930, and although a dance band expert his preference is for classical music.
Mr. Fred Hinchliffe, his eldest brother, plays the organ and deputises at local churches. Harry was with Al Tabor’s band for the summer season last year at Ramsgate.
