Burglaries

The police have been engaged this week investigating burglaries which occurred on Friday and Saturday morning.

The first was at Kilnhurst Colliery where thieves broke into the offices and got away with a safe containing £70 in cash and £220 in stamps.

The surroundings of the colliery and the canal  near were thoroughly searched but no sign of the missing safe was found. The burglars left not a single clue.

The second robbery involved two cottages in the Swinton Pottery tenanted by families called Dawson and Laidlow. The houses were entered by forcing windows but the thieves only secured a small amount of cash.
