92nd Birthday
A party was held on Saturday at the home of Mr. J. Monks, 26, Charles Street, Kilnhurst, to celebrate the 92nd birthday of his mother, Mrs. Monks, who lived for many years in Kilnhurst, and who now resides at 43, Mill Lane, South Kirkby.
Mrs. Monks, who can thread a needle without spectacles, travelled from South Kirkby for the occasion. Five of her family are receiving old age pensions and four who are over 70 were at the party on Saturday. She has two sons, six daughters, 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, most of whom were also present. Mrs. Monks’ husband died 18 years ago and was at one time employed at Kilnhurst Colliery.
She has lived in the house she now occupies at South Kirkby for 45 years. Mrs. Monks. comes from long-lived stock, her great grandfather living to be 102 and her grandfather to 99.
