Road Danger

Representatives from Swinton Urban Council’s Road Safety Committee are to meet near the junction of Highthorne Road and Newsam Road, Kilnhurst to discuss road safety dangers in the area.

At Wednesday’s meeting of the Highways and Lighting Committee, members discussed a letter from one local resident pointing out the dangers to pedestrians caused by parking cars outside the Highthorne Road shops.

Ald. Albert Newsam said: “One child has been killed here and others have been injured.  It is a big problem.”

Ald. Newsam said there were difficulties in finding a solution as there were two road junctions near each other.  He said a pedestrian crossing could not be provided as they could not be put down within 25 yards of a road junction
