“Has a Sense of Dancing “

Judith Hampshire (photo), of 11, Manor Road, Swinton, has been learning ballet for only seven months. Last week she learned that in her first examination (the Scholars’ Grade of the British Ballet Organisation) she has gained 97 marks out of 100. Remarks on her certificate say she has “excellent placing, beautiful carriage, and has a sense of dancing.” Judith is a pupil at Adwick Road Modern School, Mexborough.

In the same examination, Anthony Johns. (Kilnhurst) and Patricia Hurst (Mexborough) both gained honours, and other successes were gained by Maureen Roebuck, Gillian Boothman, Sheila Walker and Patricia Hurst (all of Mexborough) in the juvenile tap section, and by Mary Bamford and Gillian Whitaker in the junior tap.

Mary and Gillian, both 12, are appearing as the Babes, in Kilnhurst Amateur Theatrical Society’s pantomime “Babes in the Wood” at the Mexborough Royal Cinema, next week. Mary is the daughter of producer Mr. Tom Bamford.

All the above are pupils of Miss Agnes White, 67, Charles Street, Kilnhurst.
