Kilnhurst 2 Owlerton 1
This League fixture was decided at Kilnhurst on Saturday, before a good number of spectators.
The visitors were strongly represented, whilst the home team were minus the assistance of Parkin, Taylor and Schofield. It will be remembered that these clubs met at Owlerton recently, and the home team, after a very even game, were successful in playing a tie; consequently this gave them a strong impetus for Saturday’s match, and throughout the game they played in a very determined manner.
Owlerton, winning the toss, elected to kick with a strong wind in their favour. The visitors at once commenced to press, but were ultimately compelled to retreat. For a time matters proceeded in neutral quarters. Scientific play, however, on either side was greatly mititated against by the powerful wind which interfered with the pleasure of the proceedings considerably. The home team played a much neater passing game than the visitors, although short of their usual team. The visiting custodian defended his charge admirably. Play up to half-time ruled very even, neither side gaining any special advantage. The remainder of the game was still fought out very stubbornly. The OwIertonites, being desirous of returning home victorious, played up with much vigour, In the end, however, the home team were fortunate in carrying off the laurels, the match eventually terminating as follows :—
