Kilnhurst Railway Trespass.
Two Kilnhurst boys, Claude Whelpton (17) and Ralph Mann (15) were summoned at Rotherham West Riding Police Court on Monday at the instance of the Great Central Railway Company for having trespassed on the line at Kilnhurst, on Sept. 8.
The boys, with others, were watching trains pass for Doncaster races and were calling out to the passengers to throw pence and butterscotch. It was alleged that Whelpton seized a wire and deliberately moved a signal.
P.c. Headland said that when he made inquiries Whelpton said he was near the station when a packet of butterscotch was thrown. He made a grab at it and missed, but caught the signal wire.
Whelpton was fined 13s. and Mann 10s.
