Kilnhurst Footballers Death
Association with Famous Club
The death occurred on Saturday, at the age of 55, of Mr C Taylor, of Kilnhurst.
Charlie Taylor, as he was popularly called, was in his day a footballer of great repute.
As an amateur in the 80s and the 90s he assisted such clubs as the old Carthusian’s, the old Etonian, and the London Caledonians, and the famous international fullbacks, A.M. Walters and P.M. Walters, had a very high opinion of him, and often called upon him to help their side.
Taylor assisted Mexborough to win the Sheffield Challenge Cup in 1886 and played for Kilnhurst many years.
His son, Charlie played for Mexborough last season at halfback.
The interment takes place at Saint Thomas’s Church on Tuesday. The remains were born to the grave by members of the working men’s club, of which deceased was a popular member
The Rev. F. W. Shepard was the officiating clergyman.
