Pottery Site Closes

A view of the pottery buildings at Kilnhurst, which are now being dismantled.

Pottery has been made on this site for nearly 150 years, and Kilnhurst was once a flourishing centre of the industry. The bell shown in the photograph was it one time used at the famous Rockingham pottery. The South Yorkshire pottery industry has now been in decline for many years, and the Kilnhurst pottery, which closed its doors a month or two ago, was the last survivor in this district.

In its last phase it was owned and managed by the Heald family. An article on the history of the pottery appears on this page.
