Dour Fight at Kilnhurst.

Kilnhurst 1, Piccadilly 1

It was real “derby” stuff at Kilnhurst on. Saturday, and a big attendance watched the exciting struggle. There was a sensational start, for inside five minutes Harvey took a pass from Firth and gave Kilnhurst the Lead. The ball caught a bump in the ground and bounced over Wilde’s outstretched arms.

The Kilnhurst forwards put in a lot of good work but missed many chances. A penalty kick gave Piccadilly the equaliser. Willoughby was fouled when going through and Bisby-scored from the spot. Play was scrappy for a period and fouls were too frequent.

The  firmness of the referee pulled the game together again and some very good football followed, but neither side scored again.

The Piccadilly defence played well in face of many well-designed attacks by Kilnhurst in the second half. Kilnhurst lacked finish or they might have gained a good lead. Kilnhurst were awarded a penalty kick after an hour but Gulliver made a sad mess of the opportunity.

Both goals had narrow escapes, but Kilnhurst did the more attacking. There was no further scoring. Wilde, Storer and Ardron performed splendidly in the Piccadilly defence and Oliver and Bisby did well in the middle line. The forward line lacked their old combination.

Kilnhurst were well served in goal by Russell, and the backs, Hoyle ,and Gulliver, were sound in their tackling and kicking. The half-backs were fine with Chester the star. The forwards were an excellent lot with Harvey, Firth and Turner outstanding.
