“Wasps” Cup Hunting
Kilnhurst Town 2 Ecclesfield Church 1
Kilnhurst Town are now within measurable distance of handling the Montagu Challenge Cup. The “Wasps” duly qualified for the final by defeating Ecclesfield Church by two goals to one, after a hardfought game, which the church-ites put up at an unexpectedly strong opposition.
The value of Ripon, centre forward, to Kilnhurst was again demonstrated, he scored the opening goal of the match.
The “Wasps” have now to meet Parkgate and Rawmarsh in the final tussle, which will probably be decided on the Mexborough ground.
The match promises to provide an exciting struggle, but even allowing for the undoubted strength of the Parkgate Club, I feel confident in the ability of Kilnhurst Club to come out top at the finish. Still it is not why is to underestimate opponents, and I hope the “Wasps” will get as far as possible ready for the great fight.
A victory for Kinhurst will be exceedingly popular locally, for the hopefulness kept its head above water to the sea of colliery troubles that was primarily answerable for the extinction of the old Highthorn Club.
