Mexborough & Swinton Times 1916
Private W.T.South (York and Lancaster) of Kilnhurst, who enlisted May 1915, and went to France in October, was severely wounded in the thigh on 26 November.
He was transferred to Chatham Hospital, and after a few weeks in England was drafted back to France in February 1916. He took part in the big advance, and was severely wounded in the abdomen. His condition was hopeless, and he only survived a few hours.
His father Mr R South of Thomas Street, Kilnhurst, has received a letter from the Sister in charge, saying that he was buried in the military cemetery.
There is to be a memorial service in the Parish Church on Sunday.
