Soldier – Simms T.H. – Commissioned

Mr. T. H. Simms, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Simms, Belmont, Springfield Road, Kilnhurst, has been granted a commission with the West Yorkshire Regiment.

Second Lieut. Simms, who is only 19, is an old boy of Mexborough Secondary School, where he matriculated and took the Higher School Certificate.

When called up in January, 1943, he was studying for a science degree at the Borough Road College, London.  Before attending college he was an enthusiastic member of the Home Guard and has always been a keen athlete, obtaining his colours at the Secondary School.

During Army life he has represented his Company in the O.C.T.U Rugby team, apart from winning various events during training.
