Kilnhurst Men Among Six In Court

Reginald Owen, (23), crane driver, of James Street, Rotherham, appearing on remand at Rotherham yesterday on two charges of theft, was further remanded for a week after asking for bail, saying he had made plans to get married and would like to go through with it if possible.

Owen was charged, along with George Bentley, (23), sheet metal worker, of Sheridan Drive, Rotherham, with stealing three gallons of petrol, value 10s.6d., the property of the Railways Executive, and the two of them with Raymond Whitehead, (28), engineer, of Hooton Road, Kilnhurst, and William Smith, (24), scrap merchant, of Hooton Road, Kilnhurst ,were charged with stealing a motor-cycle, valued £165, the property of Dennis Payling.

Whitehead and Smith were charged with Erwin Alfred Kruger, (27), tractor driver, Hooton Road, Kilnhurst, and John Webster, (37), labourer, of Springfield Road, Kilnhurst, with stealing lead from Blyth

Applying for a remand in custody Det, Insp. Spensley said enquiries had revealed that certain of the accused had in their possession seven Motorcycles, five from Rotherham.

Kruger and Webster were arrested the previous night. There was reason to believe the leg came from Blyth Hall. Extensive enquiries and yet to be made and further charges will be preferred..
