Prisoner of War

Tom Smedley, of Staveley, grandson of Mr. and the late Mrs. C. A. Hardy, of Kilnhurst, is a prisoner of war in Italy.

He has written home to his wife, after nearly twelve months’ silence, telling her of his wanderings in Greece since the evacuation of the British Forces.

Smedley, who formerly lived at Kilnhurst, was cross-bearer and server at the Church of St. John Baptist. Staveley, before joining the Army.

He comes from a family well known as footballers.
